Meet the Magical New Member of my Beauty Arsenal!!

the benefits of rose water

I’ve got something kind of embarrassing that I need to share with you guys (in hopes that maybe some of you can relate)… I think I am getting adult acne. I never ever broke out in my teens like all my other pimply faced peers, and I thought I was pretty lucky. I got through high school without ever having to order Proactive from the catalogue like all of my other friends. It was a big accomplishment at the time.

Who knew once I hit my mid twenties I would start to get sick little breakouts on my chin and forehead. Not stoked. Plus, the fact that I am a habitual picker (not gonna lie), really doesn’t help my situation much either. When it comes to my skincare I try my best to keep it natural, if I can’t pronounce the ingredients… chances are I am not buying it. Yet, even my go-to tree tea and coconut oil combo wasn’t helping my skin issues at all.

Time to venture out a bit more into the big bad lovely world of holistic skincare. I have read somewhere that rosewater was a great product for problem skin, but it wasn’t until I saw it on the shelf at one of those fancy natural markets that I remembered I wanted to give it a go.

After just about a week of use (a spritz or 20 a day)… I am already thrilled to see my skin looks like it is on the road to recovery. & let me tell you, it’s about damn time!!

rosewater benefits

Some other awesome things rosewater is good for:

+ It helps to tighten up your pores and will prevent wrinkles (my worst fear). It’s a natural astringent and has anti-inflammatory properties which also helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles that have already formed.

+ Rosewater can help to regulate your skins pH, meaning it will get either super dry OR super oily skin under control.

+ The antibacterial properties that occur naturally in rose petals are great for soothing the skin and getting rid of acne/blackheads.

+ Obsessed with getting super long hair. Rinsing your hair in rosewater promotes growth and heals a dry & itchy scalp.

+ After a long day of working on the computer, I often get some eye strain and a headache. Dab some rosewater around the eyes, on your temples, and on your forehead and you will have no need to pop those 3 Advil.

+ Last, but not least, it is also a great setting spray for your make-up.

Magic potion? I think so.

Juice it Up: Give Your Immunity a Kick in the Ass

immunity-boosting-juice1

I am reading a new book… and it’s a reallll page turner. Ready for this? It’s Juicing for life. Yup, a book all about juice, juice, and more juice.

If you care about living a healthy life, if you have 10 extra minutes a day, and if you don’t eat enough nutrients- it’s time to enter the big bad world of juicing, and this very book is a must have for juicers of all levels. It’s chock full of info on why juicing is so important, and it has a plethora of juice recipes in relation to any and all health ailments you may be suffering from (it even has juices to help your hair grow!!)

A few very important things that I personally learned from my new book:

+ The skins of oranges & grapefruits contains a toxic substance, and if consumed in large quantities, it’s a bad situation. Be sure to PEEL these bad boys before entering the juice shoot but be sure to leave on the white pith as that has tons of Vitamin C and bioflavonoids (antioxidant).

+ Tropical fruits that may be grown in foreign countries (where carcinogenic sprays are still used) also need to peeled. Examples: kiwi, papaya, mango, etc.

+ Apple seeds need to be removed before juicing because they actually have a bit of cyanide (yuck) in them.

Anywayssss…. once I got this book and perused the million of recipes, I decided that I would make atleast one new juice a week. All of which I plan to share with you guys. For my first juice, I decided to craft up something that would boost my immunity considering I have been a bit under the weather. Good timing too, it seems everyone is getting that pre-summer bug. Ick.

FOREWARNING: This isn’t a “fruity” juice so, if you aren’t far into the juicing world, this may be a little much for you. Yet remember, you can always throw in a green apple and some lemon. Nothing wrong with some added vitamins.

theingredients

+ Throw all your ingredients into your juicer, and drink up ASAP. The fresher, the better. It’s got a garlic kick, so be prepared with a pack of gum after your chug this bad boy down. Your significant other will be grateful. +

juicing-101

+ Always keep in mind, opt for organic fruits & veggies as much as you possibly can. If for whatever reason you can’t get organic, just be sure to peel all peel-able fruits/veggies prior to juicing. +

Cheers to all you juicing babes & be sure to stay tuned for more “weekly juices”!

A Family That Crafts Together, Stays Together

DSC03168

… for the past two weeks I have had a cold/sinus prob/sore throat I can NOT kick, and I am getting pretty damn over it.

I’ve taken multiple shots of ACV (my #1 cure-all), napped plenty, gargled more salt water than you can imagine, neti-potted my sinuses, juiced everything juice-able in my house, and even tried EAR CANDLING. I am still not on my damn A game, and it’s making me cray. That being said I have two requests…

1. If you have any homeopathic/ natural suggestions for my icky-ness that I haven’t yet tried, please… do tell.

2. Pardon the short post, I feel like shit and really all I want to do is snuggle up and watch the Teen Mom reunion part 2.

Sunday was obvi Mother’s Day, and I pulled it together long enough to celebrate with my No.1 lady. I wanted to share what we did, because it was seriously the FUNNEST and most creative thing ever.

My mom invited a bunch of her friends to the celebration, and we all caravanned to this place called “Setting it in Stone“. You basically get to rummage through their 5 billion trinkets and create a design that you will eventually put into some cement. The result? A sick custom stepping stone/ garden decoration/ whatever.

Way better then going to your local lame ceramic cafe and painting another tacky mug that you really don’t need… plus you aren’t surrounded by little kids and you can bring your own wine and beer. If there isn’t one in your hood, I am sure finding someone with a cement mixer can’t be that difficult…. right?

( Crystal trees & cacti at the Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma… still dreaming of my weekend getaway. )

Did I mention that I recently am unemployed? SERIOUS buzzkill. I was working for a company, freelance style, blogging about beauty and fashion. I loved it, but unfortunately they wanted someone in office… and Seattle just isn’t the place for me. My wardrobe is no where near prepared for that kind of climate. Nor would I do well with such a lack of Vitamin D.

As disappointed as I was, I quickly decided to stop being a sad sally and realized that everything happens for a reason. Which is why I have decided to venture off onto my own (with a friend)… which you can read a bit more about here & here.

You’d think that “not working” right now would mean I have a plethora of time to read the stack of books I’ve been collecting, visit with friends, take that morning walk to the beach I’ve always promised myself I’d do, catch up on all my re-runs of the Ellen Show, etc. etc.. That has certainly not been the case. I’ve actually been busier than ever & I love it.

Once my schedule cleared from work, it immediately filled up with 1 million other things I have been waiting to do for a while. Weird thing is, as much as I am on my computer working away, it just doesn’t seem like work at all. I am actually having a blast. Cheesy or not, that’s what happens when you begin to follow your dreams, or so I hear.

+ Avocado season is here, & my adorable friend Breeana brought us a cute little guacamole kit! Such a cute idea :) +

DSC02722

+ Obsessing over this miniature set of lipsticks from Julep (perfectly purse sized)!! All the colors are inspired by the sexy roaring twenties. Oh, and their Sugar Smooch Lip Scrub is the most delish way to prep your lips for some color. +

+ Cause you can never have too many amazing turquoise rings!! I never leave a single street fair empty handed. +
